Introduction
Sixth grade students will develop a knowledge of Greek architecture in our Ancient Greece unit. Students will begin by studying images of ancient Greek temples. Students are then introduced to the project, which is to construct an Amphiprostyle temple to completion. Students will independently research an Amphiprostyle temple footprint and photos of Greek temples that are amphiprostyle construction, such as the Nike Athena Temple in Athens, Greece. They will also independently choose and research a specific god or goddess, to whom they will dedicate their temple. The students will work together in groups to come to a consensus about which god or goddess to dedicate their temple to and also which type of temple to build.
To better understand the construction of ancient structures, students will also be learning about the discovery of levers and how we use levers today. Students will complete a lab in Science class in relation to the levers.
