USA Road Trip

In this lesson you will take a virtual trip to one of the fifty United States or the District of Columbia. You'll be using the internet to research this state and learn about some of it's more interesting tourist attractions. It will be your job to create a colorful and informative travel brochure that highlights the unique places and things that you could visit on a trip to that state. Once completed the brohures will be shared with the class.

Step one

Each student will randomly select one of the fifty United States or the District of Columbia to research.

Step two

Find your state on the United States Map.  Research your state by utilizing at least 3 different online resourceso to learn some basic facts about your state. . One of them might be http://www.50states.com/. 

Step three

Once your research is completed, pretend you are a travel agent trying to sell a vacation to this state. You will create an informative travel brochure which highlights the best places to visit, cool things to do, and the important facts about the state. 

 

The travel brochure should include information about at least five interesting tourist destinations. You should also include important state facts such as: population, area (size), climate, state capital, state bird and/or flower, state motto and/or song, state nickname, important industries, important newspapers, and the Governor. Remember creativity, artwork, and neatness count!

You may either create a paper brochure or a PowerPoint brocure, either brochure must include all the information.

 

Your brochure should be 8½" X 11". You can produce a multi-page booklet or a six-sided, one-page brochure like the template below.

Once your roadtrip is over unpack your suitcase. Feel free to visit some other states.
