Dawn of the 21st Century - Part I - Immigration - AP European History

Introduction

The most important accomplishment of the European Community was the launching on 1 January, 1999 of the Euro, a single monetary unit that replaced the national currencies of most of its member nations.  The world financial crisis that commenced in 2008 has placed many internal pressures on the European Community and upon its currency.

These issues include an immigration crisis, the digital age, and religious radicalization and terrorism.  These are the issues that will be examined in this three-part webquest for Chapter 30.

The Christian Science Monitor is a well-known news organization which delivers global coverage through its web based paper.  Don't let the name fool you,  it is not a religious paper and is well known for its non-biased coverage of international topics.  Started in 1908 it has been a reliable source of news for over a century.

The Monitor has been following the immigration story in Europe closely and is looking for a bright young reporter to deliver a thorough, yet unbiased look at the immigration crisis.  They have hired you to write a story covering the impacts (both negative and positive) that immigration has had on the economic and social stability of the recieving countries.  They are counting on you to measure up to the quality of reporting their paper is known for.

Since this is a web-based newspaper, your article will not only cite your sources but will do so in hyperlinks.  You are expected to have at least 2 graphics to accompany your story.
