Introduction
Mr. Szekely's students, the Environmental Protection Agency is facing a crisis and we need your help! Right now air, land, and water and human pollution is making our earth unhealthy! We need you to create a public announcement that explains how we can make ourselves and our world healthier by reducing this pollution!

Task
After you learn about different types of pollution and how humans create it, as a team of four you will be developing a public announcement (radio, video, or picture) that will let people know what they can do to put an end to this problem!

Process
Within your teams of four. Each student must take on a different and important role in understanding pollution.
Role #1: Water Expert: This team member will learn all about water pollution.
Role #2: Air Expert: This team member will learn all about air pollution.
Role #3: Land Expert: This team member will learn all about land pollution.
Role #4: Human Expert: This team member will learn all about human pollution.
Once each team member has a role, they will follow the directions below to gather information about these types of pollution.

WATER EXPERT
As your team's expert on water and water pollution, it is your role to learn about what water pollution is and how it impacts our planet. To do this, you will visit the following website and answer the question below and complete the cause-and-effect worksheet! http://eschooltoday.com/pollution/water-pollution/what-is-water-polluti…
1. What is water pollution?
2.What are the causes and effects?

AIR EXPERT
As your team's expert on air and air pollution, it is your role to learn about what air pollution is and how it impacts our planet! To do this, you will visit the following website and answer the questions/complete a cause and effect chart below. http://eschooltoday.com/pollution/air-pollution/what-is-air-pollution.h…
1. What is air pollution?
2. What are some of the causes and effects of air pollution?

LAND EXPERT
As your team's expert on land and land pollution, it is your role to learn about what land pollution is and how it impacts our planet! To do this, you will visit the following website and answer the questions/complete the cause and effect chart below http://eschooltoday.com/pollution/land-pollution/what-is-land-pollution…
1. What is land pollution?
2. What are some of the causes and effects of land pollution?

HUMAN EXPERT
As your team's expert on human pollution, you will find out about how we cause pollution and the effects that human pollution has by answering the questions/completing a cause-and-effect worksheet below. For your task, you will use all three websites above to find one human cause/effect for each type of pollution.
1. What is human pollution?
2. What are the causes and effects of human pollution (1 water, 1 air, and 1 land)?

After each team member has completed their cause-and-effect chart, you will compare the causes of each type of pollution and find one cause the each of you had in common. This cause will then become the problem that you will solve!
Once you have found this problem, as a group you will fill in the worksheet below. Make sure that you write your problem on the space provided and include one effect for each type of pollution!
GROUP MEMBERS: ______________________________________________
CAUSE/PROBLEM: _______________________________________________
|
EFFECT ON AIR |
EFFECT ON LAND |
|
EFFECT ON WATER |
EFFECT ON HUMANS |
Now that you know what your problem is and how it effects the health of our planet and ourselves, it's time to come up with a solution! Once you have your solution, bring it to Mr. Szekely along with your charts. Once you get the okay, it's time to make your public announcement!
Evaluation
Task: Students will develop a public announcement that explains their problem, the effects it has on humans, air, water, and land, and their solution to this problem. This task can be completed in one of three ways:
OPTION #1: Create a radio announcement! As a group you will record your own radio announcement to play for the class!
OPTION #2: Create a TV commercial! As a group you will video tape your own TV commercial and show the video to the class!
OPTION #3: Create a poster encouraging others to be a part of your solution! You will then present this poster to the class!
- No matter which option you choose, you must be sure that it contains each one of these items
Public Announcement Checklist

Make sure you include: |
|
|
One problem/cause for water, air, land, and human pollution |
|
|
One effect the problem has on our water |
|
|
One effect the problem has on our air |
|
|
One effect the problem has on our land |
|
|
One effect the problem has on people |
|
|
A solution to the problem |
|
