American Symbols Research Project

Introduction

For one of our last units in ELA, we will be working on a research project! The topic is "American Symbols" and this will connect to many areas of the curriculum that we have studied this year.

Task

Your job will be to research one specific American symbol (found on this Google Sheet) using AT LEAST four sources, one of which should be a print (or non-internet) source. After your research, you will share your findings with your classmates in one of three ways:

- Research paper (5+ paragraphs)

- iMovie (1-2 minutes; focusing on your topic, NOT you as an actor!)

- Other media presentation (Keynote, Explain Everything, etc.)

Process

1. Identify at least five questions that you have about your topic.

2. Choose a note-taking procedure (paper based, Google sheets)

3. Begin research. Be sure to record your sources FIRST before you record any facts! (Remember, notes shoudl be taken in your own words! If you must use a quote, be sure to copy it exactly as it appears in the source, and put quotation marks around it.)

4. Review research: Did you answer all questions? Did any other questions come up that you want to look into?

5. Create final product.

6. Review rubric and requirements.

7. Peer edit project.

8. Turn in.

9. Complete extra credit research project if time.
