Property Fun

Introduction

Does it float?  Does it sink?  Is it soft?  Is it bumpy? Will a magnet stick to it?

We have lots of questions to answer in this webquest about properties.

Exactly.....what are properties?

Well, we will find out and much more on our exciting webquest into.....Classifying and Comparing Properties!!!!!

Task

You will.....

  • classify objects that sink or float
  • classify objects that stick to magnets
  • notice texture and be able to create an art project with texture
Process

Here we go.......

Activity 1:  Sink or float

  • Watch this video [video:https://youtu.be/EAEmseXr_JM]
  • Visit the Webquest Window to gather the basket for sink or float activity.
  • Conduct experiment. Fill the container with water. Predict if each item will float. Then put it in the water to see if it will float.
  • Record data on T-chart (located in Webquest basket)

Activity 2:  Texture

  • Look at the following website on creating an art project with texture.  http://nurturestore.co.uk/kids-art-exploring-texture
  • Visit the Webquest Window to gather the basket to create a texture art piece.
  • After you have completed the activity, get a steps in the process graphic organizer and tell how you made your project.

Activity 3:  Magnets

  • Watch this video on magnets.[video:https://youtu.be/ak8Bh9Zka50]
  • Visit the Webquest Window to gather a magnet basket.
  • You will need to also get a t-chart.
  • Decide if the group of objects in the basket are attracted to the magnet.
  • Record your data on the t-chart.

Evaluation

3

Took turns working with technology. Shared workload equally.  Used great first grade manners with partner.

Gave 6 examples in each area of tHe t-chart. T-chart was neatly done. Magnets

Used a variety

of textures. At least 5.

Conducted sink or float  experiment. Gave 6 examples on t-chart.

2

Most of the time used teamwork to accomplish tasks.

Gave 4 examples in each area of the t-chart. Magnets

Used only 2

textures.

Gave 4 examples on t-chart.

1

Did not share or use teamwork to accomplish tasks.

Gave 2 or less examples in each area of the t-chart. Magnets

Did not give textures..

Gave only 1 example.

Looking at how we group or classify things in this world helps us organize our thoughts and make sense of it all. If you would like to learn more about properties.....you can enjoy the videos above.

I hope you enjoyed conducting all the experiments! See what else you can "classify" around you!
