Introduction
You live in a democracy. This is the only life you know. 100 years fom now, this country will have been taken over by a dictator. (Hypethetical of course!)
A dictatorship is very different from anything you will have known.
In a dictatorship:
• Individuals do not enjoy any liberty or rights.
• People are not allowed any freedom of speech, association and press.
• All agencies of education such as schools, colleges, radio, papers and films are controlled by the state.
• No criticism against the dictator is tolerated.
• People are supposed to believe and obey.
• Democratic slogans of liberty, equality and fraternity are replaced by slogans like duty, discipline and sacrifice.
• Dictators glorify their nations to an illogical extreme.
• Dictators glorify war. War is considered to be essential for the normal.
• Dictatorship controls each and every aspect of human personality, and controls all human activities in the social, economic, political, educational, religious and cultural spheres.
• Dictators preach racialism.

Task
You will explore the web for credible information about the democracy we currently live in and write a letter that will be opened and read 100 years from now. You will describe what life was like for you here in America. Share the things that you value here and things that you may not value here.
You will be able to:
• defend your position to your reader
• give personal insight
• build a creative work (have fun with it!)
• process and transform information you have gathered into a personal letter
Process
Student will:
1. Explore the web for information that is credible about living in a democracy.
1. Use a graphic organizer to write anything that will help support views during this personal account.
2. Students will hand write the letter using proper letter writing set up skills.
3. Letter should be something that reflects what life is like here in America and using your ownexperiences.
Evaluation
I will evaluate this assignment by assessing whether students have a good grasp about what it really means to be living in America today compared to other types of government such as a dictatorship, communism, Empire or maybe even a monarchy. Students do not need to fully explain other types of government unless they want to and have a clear understanding of what they are. I will rate this assignment as 1-unclear about our form of government and what you appreciate about living here. 2-fairly clear about our form of government and what you appreciate about living here. 3-Very detailed understanding of our form of government and what it means to live here.
Conclusion
This assignment requires students to really reflect, synthesize and analyze everything they have come to know about America, their findings online and their personal views about life here and put it all together in their written letter.
