The Outsiders- Mr. Fleming's Class

Introduction

Hello, Class! This WebQuest will allow us to explore the time period of the 1960s, one of the most exciting and change-filled time periods in American history. It is also the setting for at least two novels in our literature circle unit, S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders and Frank Bonham's Durango Street. Enjoy!

On your worksheet: Name 4 popular songs from the 1960s, 3 popular musicians/bands, and 2 popular music genres.

***Close out of tabs when you are finished with them so that your computer doesn't run slowly***

https://www.google.com

On your worksheet: Fill out the left side of the chart with the name and cost of 5 food items.

Then, on Google, find the modern cost of each food item by typing in "cost of ______" in the search bar. Use that information to fill out the right side of the chart.

Read through the events on one or more of the sites, and find events that you think were important and/or interesting. Read the descriptions, and try to think of questions that you have about the events.

On your worksheet: List three interesting events, and come up with a question about each one.

Step 4: Popular Toys: http://www.skooldays.com/blog/toys-in-the-50s/

These toys are from the 1950s and 1960s.

On your worksheet: List four of these toys that you have played with and/or heard of, and explain how at least one of them is used.

If you finish early: Go back up to the first link and explore some of the other tabs such as "furniture," "appliances," and "fashions."

Or, go back and look more deeply at some of the other topics that caught your interest.
