Introduction

Welcome to the

Ancient Chinese Philosophies

Webquest! 

Task

You are a reporter for a local newspaper. Fortunately, you will have the opportunity of working on a team with other reporters. Your reporting team travels all over the world to assist your community with learning about past and present cultures. Your job is to work as a team to research and write articles for the latest issue of the newspaper, which will look specifically at life in ancient Chines philosophies.

Process

Step 1:

Each memeber of the group will be assigned one of the following philosophies: Confucianism, Legalism and Daoism. Each member will read their section in their textbook and complete the notes in their interactive notebook. When everyone is completed they will share their understanding with their other group members. Then the other members will record the notes in their own interatctive notebooks. 

Step 2:

Students will use the links provided to find informational facts that supports their understanding of the 3 ancient Chinese philosophies. The students will write 4-6 facts they find from the Internet. They will record their infromation on their webquest information sheet.

Step 3:

As a group you will create a newspaper article that includes information about the 3 philosophies and how they affected life during the time. Be sure to use citations if using information from other sources!  You may do this step on paper or on Microsoft Publisher.

Evaluation

Rubric:  

Students will be graded indivudially on participation and engagement during the web quest.

The student shows very good to excellent understanding of concepts of Ancient Chinese Philosophies: Confucianism, Legalism and Daoism.

The student organizes and presents historic information well by writing and newspaper article using detailed, accurate, and clear historic information pertaining to ancient Chinese philosophies. 

Includes at least 1 citations per philosophy that supports your understanding.

Conclusion

In conclusion, your group will be creating a newspaper article that summarizes that ancient Chinese philosophies: Confucianism, Legalism and Daoism. You will need to read the text book, use the online articles, and cite information that supports your understanding of ancient Chinese philosophies. You may create the newspaper article on paper or using Microsoft Publisher.
