Australian Bushrangers

Introduction

Bushrangers were bandits who hid in the Australian bush. They made a living from robbing, often by stopping coaches and stealing the passengers’ money and belongings, or by making raids on farms and shops. Over the past few weeks we have:

  • Defined what a bushranger is
  • Discussed the two different types of bushrangers
  • How the bushranging era came to an end
  • And we learnt about a couple of well-known bushrangers in Australia!
Task

Now we are going to take a closer look at some Australian bushrangers!
Working with your partner, you need to find all the information that we discussed in class on the bushranger that was assigned to you. Once you collect this information, you can both decide how you present it to the class!

Process

Here are some steps to help get you started:

  1. Make sure you write down who your partner is, and the name of your bushranger. You BOTH need to write down your information in your own books!

  2. Remember that we need to include the bushrangers:

    • Full name (and nickname/s)
    • Date of birth
    • Date of death
    • What state/s they lived in and how they lived
    • What crimes they committed
    • How they were caught
    • Their punishments
    • How they died (if it wasnt from the punishment)
    • At least 1 picture
    • And a maximum of 4 interesting facts

  3. There will be books available in the classroom. And here are some useful websites:

  4. Once you have gathered ALL the information you need, you and your partner need to decide how you are going to present it. For example, you might want to make a powerpoint presentation, a webquest or a Prezi.

  5. Remember that we will only have 4 lessons to complete this task!
Evaluation

What I am looking for in your presentations:

  • Accurate information
  • Detailed sentence answers - except for Names, date of birth and date of death.
  • Eye-catching and interesting presentation layouts that engage the audience
  • All of the required information
  • Communicating, sharing the workload, and compromising with your partner
Conclusion

Since we have learnt all about bushrangers, and researched other bushrangers, I think in the next task we should do something creative... like making wanted posters with a twist!
