U.S. Holidays

Do you like holidays? What holidays do you celebrate? Would it be awesome to learn why we celebrate certain holidays in the U.S.? In each country around the world there are holidays that are only celebrated in that country. Wouldn’t it be cool to know why some holidays are only celebrated in the United States?

In this WebQuest you will work in small groups to research traditions, food, special events, etc. of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Independence Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, or Thanksgiving. At the end of the WebQuest your group will plan a party for the classroom to celebrate to show how the United States celebrates that holiday.

The job of each group will be to:

     1. Research the holiday I give you and use the resources available on the WebQuest.

     2. Answer questions about the holiday you are researching.

     3. Plan and organize a party to show the traditions, food, etc., and why this holiday is unique to the U.S.

     4. Present your party to the class.
