Introduction

You have been busy studying Antarctica for several weeks. Now it is time for you to put all of your knowledge to good use as you travel to Antarctica.
You will be a part of a team of scientists studying the effects of tourism on the wildlife and environment.
Your research will be included in a report to be filed with the Houck Huskies Wildlife Foundation magazine.
Task
Select your team members carefully. You want to know that they will work just as hard as you, complete tasks accurately and on-time, and share your goals.
Process
Assignment 1 Create a Folder
You need to start a folder to put your completed tasks in to keep as a memory of your expedition and to hand in on completion of the webquest.
On your computer, go to Coursework (R:)
Open the file: mann_laurie
Open the file: Period 3
Open the file: Turn In
Right Click on your mouse.
Scroll to New. Then to Folder. Then name your folder with your First and Last Name.
You will be travelling by ship to the bottom of the world.

Assignment 2 Packing to go!
Your next task is to pack your bag for the expedition.

Remember you are traveling by boat so you may only take a certain amount of luggage. Your limit is 45 pounds. You must think carefully about what you will need and how much it will weigh.
Open the attachment 'Activity page' where I have listed the items you may choose and fill in the suitcase with your choices. Remember to keep track of how many pounds you are packing.

Assignment 3 Design a campsite!
You really are doing well to be on the third assignment already.
For this assignment you must design a campsite in Paint. The site must take the following things into consideration:
weather (strong to withstand the wind)
size (how many people it will fit)
layout (bedrooms, study, food preparation)
Danger (keep out animals!!)
To open Paint, click on the Start Button.
Go to Accessories.
Open Paint.

Assignment 4 Animal Research.
This is the part of the expedition where you must venture out and research three animals. I have listed a web site that you may find useful, however I encourage you to do some exploring of you own. Be adventurous!
You must find out each animals:
§ scientific name
§ average weight
§ average length
§ their coloring (i.e. penguin - white, black)
§ what their main food source is
§ three interesting facts that you learn from your research

Assignment 5 Power point
Now that you have information about Animals of Antarctica you must choose one from your research and design an informational Powerpoint presentation about your chosen animal. The presentation must be informative and include at least one picture. Be as creative as possible.
Open Powerpoint from your start menu. Print a condensed version when you have finished for your mission folder. Good luck!
Assignment 6 Macquarie Station!
How exciting!!! Today you are off to MacquarieIsland station! Your task is to follow the link to Macquarie Island station web cam. You will also be able to view what the station looks like right now. Wow!

Record today's lowest temperature (look in the lower right-hand corner of the video), today’s highest temperature and today’s windspeed.
Open the MacQuarie Station Weather Chart excel document and record your findings.
Remember to save it to your folder.
Assignment 7 Journal Entry
Congratulations this is your last task!
Now that your expedition has come to an end you should have many great experiences to write about. All great explorers keep a journal, now its your turn to write a journal entry while you travel home aboard ship.
