Teacher: OHhhh Classssss

Students: Ohhhh Yessssss

Today, we will exlpore the five themes of geography impact the lives of people in many different aspects. The five themes of geography are:

  1. Location- absolute (exact location of a place) or relative (relationship of one place with another place)
  2. Place- human and physical characteristics of a location
  3. Human- Environment Interactions- the adaptations of humans and the environment
  4. Movement- the way people, products, and ideas move from one place to another
  5. Regions- the division of large world into smaller parts which makes the study of the world easier

We will place much emphasis on the theme MOVEMENT! We will investigate where everyday products we use come from and how they end up in America!

Ready, Get Set, G-0!!!!!

Task

Before beginning the lesson, I want you to brainstorm about different products we use on a daily basis.

1. As you are called on, I want you to tell me one product you use everyday a home or at school.

2. If you can, tell me where the product was made.

3. Then, I want you to think critically about how you think the product came to the United States.

Put your THINKING CAPS On!!!!!!!!!!

1. Let's play "AROUND THE WORLD."  I will write the names of each theme on chart paper and place them around the room. Each of you will count off in fours. All ones, twos, threes, and fours will be group together and assigned a theme. You will write or draw a definition of your assigned theme. When the teacher yells "SWITCH," you will rotate counterclock wiseto the next theme until each group have been to each theme.

2. As a class discussion, we will discuss the definitions of each theme. Then, you will explore the theme of MOVEMENT, where the products we use come from, and how they come to the United States.

3. You will collect labels from food, clothes, toys, etc. from products at home. You will create a chart with the following categories:

  • Where products come from
  • Products made in Mississippi/United States
  • How the products come here

You will categorize each label accordingly.

4. As a group, you will present your findings to the class. We will have an open discussion about the products and how they come to our country.
