Introduction
Standard:
2-LS4-1. Make observations of plants and animals to compare the diversity of life in different habitats.
Grade: 2
Teacher Objective: After viewing this webquest and reading additional resources, students will be able to compare different plants and animals throughout different habitats.
Hi students! During this webquest you will be able to take a "walk" through different habitats and learn about the animals and plants that live there. What is a habitat you ask? Well, a habitat is a place where animals and plants live. Animals and plants can live all over the world. Some like to live in cold places, and some like to live in warm places. Watch the video below and learn more about animals and their habitats!
Task
For this webquest, you are now going to become wildlife investigators. Your job is to learn about different habitats and the plants and animals that live there. You will investigate and see what kinds of animals and plants live in these habitats, and why they live there. Why do polar bears live in the cold and not in the desert? It is your job to find out!
You will record what you find and compare the different habitats as you learn about them. At the end, you will create a poster about your favorite habitat and bring it to class and show everyone. Good luck!
Process
Wildlife investigators, please click all of the links below and learn about the different habitats. You will record what you find. Include the name of the habitat, where you can find it and what animals and plants live there. After viewing all of the habitats, you will compare them. Why can some animals live in these places and not in others? Think about these things, and we will have a group discussion in class.
Plant Adaptations (For plant adaptations only look at Tundra, Water, Desert, Tropical Rainforest and Grassland).
After taking notes about the habitats, you now need to choose your favorite one!
1. Choose your favorite habitat and create a poster.
2. Include pictures and information about it (where can you find it, what animals and plants live there)
3. Tell us why it is your favorite!
You will turn in your notes and your poster in class.
Evaluation
Each investigator will be graded on their habitat notes and poster.
Habitat notes will need to be completely filled out to receive full credit. You will also need to include why you think those animals and plants can live in those particular habitats.
Habitat poster needs to include: favorite habitat, pictures, and plants and 3 animals you could find there.
