Introduction
Constructions, Constructions, Constructions....
They're like the easiest thing ever!! And the best part is...
They don't require ANY Numbers!!! If you didn't already know the word "constructions" in geometry means to accuratley draw shapes, angles or lines.
This Webquest is designed to teach students About constructions and the simplicity in
making Constructions. They Are Made with a few simple materials: A Compass (Usually Comes with Pencil), Straightedge/Ruler. Once you have your materials your good to go.
Task
Now the fun part begins...Atleast i think its fun..
First Things First, Divide yourselves into Groups No larger than 3-4 Students. (I Recommend choosing students that will work well and pay attention and do a fair share of work.)
To get a Nice grip and really grasp the concept of these simple easy constructions. Your group will be learning what a construction is, looks like, how it's Drawn, and step by step how to make one correctly.
After you've learned and really understand the concept you will complete Two short simple Worksheets and present One detailed powerpoint (that does not exceed 5 minutes long and is atleast 3 minutes long.) that thouroughly explains what you have learned and has nice examples. I Would like you to include 2 or 3 examples of constructions. (including Pictures and steps.)
Process
To get You started i have a few websites linked below that basically show you a nice easy step by step and virtual representation how to actually draw the construction,
Every thing you need to know about constructions is on the websites:
http://www.mathsisfun.com/geometry/constructions.html
https://www.khanacademy.org/math/geometry/geometric-constructions
http://www.mathopenref.com/constructions.html
http://mathworld.wolfram.com/GeometricConstruction.html
http://whistleralley.com/construction/reference.htm
Go Onto Each And Every link (Do your own research if desired or use the provided websites.) , get as much important information as possible and remember this information will be used in your powerpoint. Make sure all information you include in your powerpoint is in your own words, or cite the sources.
After you have Completed the Researching and your powerpoint, i would like you to complete two Worksheets that will be provided for you by your teacher. Every group member MUST Have their own worksheet. (Remember Maximum 3-4 Students a group.)
Evaluation
All Group Members will be graded on how well your powerpoint's:
-Neatness.
-Spelling, grammer, And punctuation.
-Diagrams and sketches.
-Working with others.
-How well explanations are explained.
Conclusion
Okay, So your almost done!!! Only 2 thing's left to do:
1.)present your powerpoint to the class.
(Every person in the group must have a turn to speak.) Remember you rpowerpoint has to be between 3-5 minutes, anything over/under the posted time, will result in deductions of points.
2.)Turn in your worksheets. Every group member must have their own copies of the worksheets fully completed, stabled, and turned into your teacher.
Credits
I Am Currently a sophomore student at Flagler Palm Coast High School. (FPC) And I Currently take geometry myself.
I created this webquest to help students around my age to get a better and more understanding of constructions. Literally just following my easy steps and following the webquest will guarentee comprehendance of constructions. I hope this helped and never be afraid to ask your teacher questions when your confused on something. Their there to help you. (:
