Introduction
As a new nation, it became up to the United States to determine its own path in terms of foreign policy. At the heart of foreign policy debates were political tensions and arguments between the Federalists and the Democratic Republicans. Britain and France represented two very distinct ideals, and were frequently fighting against one another. These issues and differences became even more evident with the dawning of the French Revolution.
