Holiday's Around the Word

Introduction

Hello and welcome 5th graders,

This is your guide to create a "Holidays Around the World" brochure. Why are we doing this project you ask? The purpose of this project is to learned about other cultures and traditions, and how they are celebrated during the holiday season in other places. Believe it or not, not everyone celebrates Christmas. Some people celebrate Chanukah and some people celebrate Kwanza, this depends on a person culture or where they grew up. Or just because another country celebrates Christmas, doesn't mean they follow the same traditions and customs we celebrate in America.

Task

  • Choose a country and/or holiday: You will start this process by choosing a country and/or holiday you are interested in learning about. Remember to pick something that no one else choose and perhaps a place or holiday you don't know much about. Remember, this is a LEARNING process!
  • Research: Look through books and websites (provided by the teacher. Websites will be listed on the next tab under, "process") :) Make sure to record where you got the information from so you can go back it if needed.
  • INFORMATION, INFORMATION, INFORMATION:Fill out ALL of the sections in the graphic organizer I provided you with. I can't stress enough to add LOTS OF DETAILS!! I would like AT LEAST 3 facts for each section in the graphic organizer. If you add more, you'll get BONUS points!!
  • Final Brochure:Before getting to this step make sure a teacher looks over your work and approves you to insert an create your holiday brochure. Be sure to add lots of pictures and color, and that it is neat and easy to read. Make your brochure interesting, trying to get people to vistit your country and celebrate their holiday. Your will be scored on a rubric on the tab under "evaluation."
