A webquest to promote healthy living through educated eating

Introduction
For over 110 years, the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) has estblished nutritional and dietary guidelines to keep America healthy. With the increase in juvenile obesity and health problems as a nation, the traditional Food Pyramid was replaced in 2011 with the My Plate diagram. This diagram is intended to ease the ability to understand and adhear to healthy eating and nutrition for young people.
After completing this webquest, students will be able to name the MyPlate food groups, identify foods for each group , create a diagram of MyPlate , and communicate the importance of a balanced diet and what constitutes a balanced diet in essay form.
Task
- Step 1
- Students will watch a brief video on the MyPlate nutrition guidelines
- Step 2
- Students will complete quizzes on MyPlate guidelines and food groups
- Step 3
- Students will identify and match foods and food groups
- Step 4
- Students will complete a one page essay on the importance of eating a balance diet.
- Step 5
- Students will create a balanced menu to include breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack for one full day.
