How To Prepare For IELTS

Introduction


IELTS is an international standardized English competence test. Individuals who want to continue studies in English–speaking countries they have to take IELTS or TOEFL tests first. Many employment opportunities abroad require individuals to receive a minimum score from the English language command tests.

IELTS has two versions; the academic version of people who want to join universities and other institutions of higher learning, and for various professionals who wish to study or do their practices in an English-speaking country. The general training version assists those who are undertaking non-academic training and for immigration purposes. English Language Assessment department of Cambridge, British Council, and IDP Education Pvt Ltd manage it.

Task

IELTS test preparations need one to study the format of the test to know the expectation of the test. Study carefully the content of the parts of the test, which includes reading, listening, writing and speaking. Individuals also need to understand the expected questions in each part. Examination of IELTS practice papers and answers are necessary. One can choose from the training versions of the test. All the candidates have to do the same listening and speaking sections. The IELTS test has four sections: Listening has 40 questions this takes 30 minutes. Speaking that has 15 minute's interview, reading 40 questions containing 60 minutes and finally writing that has two pieces of writing within 60 minutes.

Process

You can choose between the Academic or General Training versions of the test. All candidates do the same Listening and Speaking sections.

The test has four sections:

  1. Listening - 4 sections, 40 questions, 30 minutes

  2. Speaking - interview, 15 minutes

  3. Reading - different for Academic or General Training - 3 sections, 40 questions, 60 minutes

  4. Writing - different for Academic or General Training - 2 pieces of writing, 60 minutes
