Making A Webquest for SNHU Science Class

Introduction

Make your Own Webquest!

Welcome to Createwebquest.com. This website was selected for SNHU's EDU-370 because it is a free application. The purpose of this activity is to get you to work with technology to develop curriculum that is engaging.

Start by picking a NGSS Science Standard and any literacy or math CCSS that you will be teaching using this webquest. You will add them on the teacher's page, but for now, think about the standard. Then search the web for examples and for problems that students could solve that would demonstrate learning in that field.

In the Introduction section, you need to come up with an interesting hook to get students involved. It is most advisable to create your webquest as a problem to be solved....whether the problem is real or imaginary. (By imaginary I mean, President Obama needs your help....) Give a brief introduction to the overall problem. This may only be one paragraph.

Consider adding photos and color to make it grasp students' attention!

Task

In this section you will provide a task that a team of four people will work together to solve. Each student will have different roles, but in this section you just provide all the project you will be working on.

Process

A critical element of most webquests is that each student has their work to do. Just like we had different roles in evaluating webquests, you want to develop 3-5 roles for students in your class. You may ask all students to go to a link and watch a video, or you may ask them to all read an article and answer questions, but then they each need their own jobs.

On this page, you will provide step-by-step directions for each person on the team. Consider breaking the page into sections for each student. It is critical that this is organized and clear so that students don't miss part of the work you need them to do. Please add handouts that students can click on and print wherever needed.

Evaluation

Develop a rubric to share with students how they will be graded. You may choose to use http://rubistar.4teachers.org/index.php and copy and paste it in, if that's easier for you. Be careful in selecting what criteria you are scoring. Be sure that what you are scoring is part of the learning outcomes you've selected for the webquest.

Conclusion

Write a summary thanking students for coming up with a solution to the problem. Again, try and be creative!
