Hello creatures of room 18! I'm happy to have you here today.  

This is your teacher speaking. Yes, really, it's me Ms. Bledsoe. Ok, let's carry on, shall we?

You're about to embark on the adventure of your lifetime. Or at least, the greatest adventure since walking through those computer lab doors just a minute before.

Today, you will explore an early civilization called the Aztecs. Yes, I said it, THE AZTECS!! They were a mighty civilization - an advanced culture that usually has cities with well developed kinds of learning, religion, and government.

Task

Your task, should you choose to accept it (but really you have no choice) is to:

1. Read through an article of information on the Aztec Empire.

2. Watch a series of videos, to help supplement the text you've just read.

3. Respond to questions to the best of your ability.

4. Write a 2 paragraph summary of what you learned during this webquest on the Aztec Empire.

Process

1. Open a word document. Before beginning your work, save your word document by following the steps indicated below. DO THIS BEFORE MOVING FORWARD.

  • Open word document
  • To save, go to: network ---> ParkviewAS ---> users ---> PARoom18 ---> MsBledsoe ---> Aztecs
  • Then save document as your name.

2. Then, start by reading through the following article: CLICK HERE. While reading, respond to the following questions on your word document. Be sure to number each question and respond in complete sentences.

  1. What period of time did the Aztec Empire flourish?
  2. Where was the Aztec Empire located?
  3. What 3 cities were a part of the "triple alliance"?
  4. Why do you think the Aztecs worshiped so many gods?
  5. In what ways did the Aztecs honor their gods?
  6. What is something you initially find interesting about the Aztecs?

3. Next, watch the videos on Engineering an Empire: CLICK HERE. While watching the videos, respond to the following questions in your word document:

  1. Why might the Aztecs have been such a violent culture?
  2. What factors lead to the growth, development, and power of the Aztecs?
  3. What were some of the things the Aztecs were responsible for building and designing that lead to the success of their cities?

4. As a way to summarize what you've learned thus far, respond to the following questions in two paragraphs (each paragraph should be 4-5 sentences):

  • Paragraph 1: What were the major accomplishments of the Aztecs? How did these accomplishments benefit their civilization?
  • Paragraph 2:Do you believe the Aztecs would have been as successful as they were in maintaining power over their region had they been less violent? Explain.
Evaluation

You will be evaluated and scored by the following rubric:

40 points - The student has completed all tasks required of this assignment. They have responded to the questions asked in a way that shows they have read the text, watched the videos, and put thought into their work. The student has also written a two paragraph response that shows effort and the knowledge of what they have learned.

35 points - The student has completed all tasks required of this assignment. They have responded to the questions asked, but they have shown a lack of effort in that their responses are short, incomplete, and show little effort. The student has written a two paragraph response that shows some effort and some knowledge of what they have learned.

30 points - The student has completed most of the tasks required of this assignment. The student responded to most of the questions asked in a way that shows they have read the text and watched the vidoes. The student has also written a two paragraph response that shows effort, however they fail to respond completely to the prompt.

20 points and below - The student has failed to complete the task that was assigned to them. They turned in some work, however the work was incomplete and does not show that they have read or watched what was assigned to them, nor does it demonstrate any effort was made.
