Newspaper Chase

Introduction

This is a WebQuest designed to let students use their social skills and to help students from 1st year in their English project "Newspaper Chase". 


In this assignment they will have to read the short story. Then, they'll have to work together to show how much they have learned. In order to do so, they will have to work with different tools.

Introduction

Do you think stealing is a bad thing? If you see someone’s stealing, will you call the police? You are about to read a story that will make you think about social responsibility and justice.

You have make groups of 4 students and as a group you will develop different activities detailed in the Task section.

Task

You will read the story with your group. As a group, you will create a comic, a radio program, the news, a newspaper article, a movie segment, a new ending or an identikit (using technology) to share with the class.

In order to create a program we can use the following tools:

Process

In order to accomplish the task, learners should go through the following steps.

  • First, you'll choose a team of 4 students.
  • Then, you'll start reading the extensive reader chosen (Newspaper Chase). 
  • Once you have finished you'll do the activities assigned using Google Drive. Remember that each member should make at least one contribution in Google Drive.

1- Read the story and describe:

                 Setting in time

                 Setting in place

                 Characters in the storie

2- While you read make a Word List and write a definition for each unknown, include the page and line where you found it. Example: Other Worlds - page 1, line 1: INTO: preposition -  toward or in the direction of / en o dentro de.

Evaluation

Students will get a common grade for group work and an individual grade.

The student and the group were able to work together having an equal participation within the group members. His/ her work has reflected the highest level of performance.

Congratulations!! You took this into your own hands and you made a difference.  You have learnt a lot but above all you have learnt to work and respect your classmates’ opinions. I hope this journey has opened your eyes, ears and mind not just about English matters and technology but that you realize that "alone we can do so little and together we can do so much".
