It's All Greek to Me!!

Introduction

In order for you to gain a strong understanding of the world that you live in, you should have a keen understanding of the influences that shape your life. Greek culture has had a major influence on how people in the modern world live.

As we have discussed in class, our world has been greatly influenced by many ancient civilizations, none more that Greece.  From government to the arts, architecture to philosophy and science, Greece has had a more obvious influence on our modern world than any other ancient civilization.

Task

In this project you will work with a group to create a presentation that illustrates the influences of Ancient Greek civilization on modern American society.  You will also highlight examples of Greek influence in your own community of Winchester.

Process

You first need to select a team and a team leader.  Your team must be no more than 4 members and include people you have not worked with before.

You will have six weeks to complete this project.  A calendar of days we will be in the computer lab are attached to the unit plan handed out at the beginning of the unit.  We will be in the computer lab at least 1 day every week and a many times 2 days.  Use your time in the lab wisely.

Most research can be accomplished in the lab.  However, parts of this project must be completed outside of school.

Research to identify evidence of Greek influence in modern American society in the following areas:  literature and history, government, medicine, mathematics, astronomy, geography, biology, architecture, theater, sports.

Create a poster presentation illustrating how these are evident in both the United States and in Winchester.

Each member of your team must contribute equally to this project.

You will present your project on the designated day.
