Introduction
Task
You will be working in groups of 3 people. Each person in your group will have a specific role. One person will be responsible for researching the 3 stages of a workout, the purpose for each stage, and what should occur during each stage as well as the length. The second person in the group will be responsible for explaining the 3 principles of training and how each of them apply to a workout program. The third and final person in each group will be responsible for applying the F.I.T.T principle to create a one week workout program that an individual could follow on their own that meets the guidelines for each component of fitness. Each member will explore each of the websites provided and may also use the textbook for any additional information needed. You will each then combine the information into a power point or google doc presentation to be graded. The first slide of your project should include each group member's name and role. Then, the final slide of your project is the reference page where each of your sources is to be cited using MLA format.
Process
Step 1: In your groups you need to decide which section each person is going to take. 3 Stages of a Workout, 3 Principles of Training, or creating a 7 day workout plan.
Step 2: Once roles have been decided, read over the assignment rubric to assure you know exactly what information you must include in each section.
Step 3: Read over the Web Quest Introduction, the Task page, the Process page, The Evaluation page, and then the Conclusion page.
If you have any questions, please ask me!
Step 4: Be sure to check out the helpful links to locate information or feel free to conduct your own research. Remember to paraprhase your information, even if it is a definition put it in your own words. Please remember to write down your soucres because they need to be on the reference page.
Step 5: Once you have completed all of your information individually, you need to put it together. I recommend google docs since all of you can work at the same time, but you can make a Power Point. You have until the last 15 minutes of class. Dont waste time!
Step 6: Remember your responsible for knowing this information so you need make sure your learning as you work. Have fun!!!
Evaluation
How will you and your group be evaluated?
1. Individual Grade - You need to be working with your group quitely. Ever time I have to speak with you about your behavior you will lose points!
2. Your Information Provided (for your section) - Information provided is correct and is in your own words. Remember just because one site provides information you should verify it by checking another site.
3. Group Collaboration on Power Point or Google Doc - You need a title page and a reference page, remember you citing sources using the MLA format. Does your information flow smoothly and is it easy to understand?
Conclusion
When developing and implementing a personal fitness plan, it is important to understand the training principles: overload, progression, and specificity. Understanding the training principles and how to apply those principles increases a person's ability to develop a fitness plan to meet personal goals toward improved health, performance, and appearance. A well thought out training program uses the FITT Principle to produce overload and includes progression and specificity.
For positive changes to occur in health, peformance, and appearance, the body must adapt to an increased demand in one of the three variables of the FITT Principle. The variables are frequency, intensity, and time. Increasing the frequency, intensity, or time of an activity beyond normal peformance provides a reason for the body to adapt or change to meet the new demand and make positive changes in health, performance, and appearance. Training the body beyond normal peformance demonstrates the principle of overload.
With overload, the body adapts slowly and makes small changes towards improvement over time. Therefore, it is important to use the principle of progression correctly. It is unreasonable to to expect an individual to increase all three FITT variables at once because the body requires periods of rest to rebuild muscle tissue. In addition, a drastic difference in overload could lead to exhaustion or injury, causing the body to break down rather than to adapt. To achieve the desired results, the principle of progression, or a gradual increase in the FITT principle must be applied correctly.
Besides overload and progression, it is important to also consider the principle of specificity when designing a fitness plan. The principle of specificity states that training is specific to the muscles used and the components of fitness being trained. It is important that the type of training performed matches the desired results. Using the training principles consistently in a fitness program will achieve the results desired in health, peformance, and appearance.
