Dawson Forst Nuclear Facility

Introduction

Hello everyone!

Today we are going to research about the Dawson Forest Nuclear Facility. You will choose from the choice board which project you will do, but it must contain the necessary information as well as your sources. You have to reliable, primary and secondary sources and use them in the project.

You will get more detailed instructions in the following sections. Above all else, find out something intresting and have fun!!!

Task

Choose on of the topic from the board below. Be sure to follow your rubrics! Be sure that your project has a bibliography if the sources are not cited in the text/video.

Warning sign:

You will create warning signs, as many as is needed, to display the information about the area. These may end up posted, so be sure they are good!

poster:

Create a poster that describes the area, what happened, etc. Follow the rubrics!

brochure:

Make a brochure that tells about the area. Use pictures and make it something that draws the attention.

PSA: Public Service Announcement:

Create a public service announcement, and model it after the 1950's era announcements. Make them informative, but have plenty of fun doing it!

Your idea:

just make sure I approve it and it follows the rubrics! Be creative!

Cartoon:

Create a cartoon that will be both hilarious, but also inform the readers about true facts of the area.

newspaper article:

write an article like you would see in the newspaper. Be sure to make it draw attention, because we need this story to help sell our paper! Use a picture and make it interesting.

short story:

write a short story that ties all the information you found together. Make sure it is logical and interesting!

News Report:

You need to film a news report. You can do this however you like, but be sure to include the vital information. Make it entertaining!

You have to have reliable, primary and secondary sources and use them in the chapter. A MINIMUM of 3 sources, PLUS the two sources you recieved in class must be used.

Process

Using a database from the library (Destiny) or Galileo, search for the Dawson Forst Nuclear Facility. Some other words that may help in your search will be: GNAL, AFB 67, Lockheed, Nuclear powered airplanes.

You may use newspaper articles for secondary sources, such as the AJC, NY Times, or even the Dawson News.

Take notes on the worksheet that you have been provided with, and be sure to cite all of your sources carefully and accurately.

Once you have finished the research, show me your notes and citations. Upon approval, you may begin to work on your project. Use the information you know to be a fact as a basis for your project, but be creative! Make it so that you as a student would want to read/watch it!

Evaluation

You will be formally assessed twice during this project. The first time you will be assessed is when you complete your research. I have to approve of your sources, as well as your notes, and make sure that your citations are correct. I will follow the Rubric below for this part.

The final assessment will be on your project. Being creative is part of your grade! Be careful for mistakes, use your citations correctly, and be sure to use them often. I will grade the projects based on the rubric below.

At the end of this project, volunteers will be able to present their projects to the class. The class can vote on the best project, and this person will get a special surprise!
