Meal Time!

Introduction

What if you want to cook dinner for your parents?

What if Mom asks you to grocery shop for her and gives you $20 to get everything on her list?

Budgeting your money while still purchacing what you need is a very important skill for your everyday life.

This WebQuest will walk you through how to accomplish this task. You could make a meal just like this one!

Task

Using this WebQuest, you will create a meal for your family while staying under your budget. Don't forget about tax! Shopping and staying in your budget isn't hard to do!

Process
  • First, your budget for the meal you are creating is $40.00.
  • Click on the links provided below and select one meat, two vegetables, one starch (such as potatoes or noodles), and one type of drink. Record the price of each item that you choose. Remember that the total of all of your items must be under $40.00 after tax! You may use one or more of the links provided.
  • After you have selected all four of your items, add the prices of each item together to find the sum. Next, multiply the sum by 0.095 to find the tax on your items. Add that total back to the sum.
  • If your total is $40.00 or below, congratulations, you have succesfully created a meal that is within your budget. If your total is over $40.00, go back and retry, this time choosing items that cost less.
