French Cuisine

Introduction

Bonjour Tout le Monde!

Today you are going to complete a webquest in order to participate in next week's "Culinary Conversation" with Mrs. Harrison's Health and Nutrition class.

Task

1. You will work in groups of two. Please choose your partner. The two of you will work at the same computer.

2. You will select one of the following French Desserts to research:

  • Crepes
  • Macaron
  • Mardi Gras King Cake
  • Yule Log
  • Mousse
  • Eclair
  • Creme Brulee
  • Tarte Tatin
  • Peche Melba
  • Opera Cake
  • Custard Tart

3. You will now research your french dessert and create a PowerPoint presentation to present to both the French class and the Health and Nutrition Class.

Please move to the Process tab for more instruction.

Process

Your PowerPoint presentation must be professional looking, and it must contain the following information.

Slide 1: The name of your dessert in English and French if different-use accents, etc., a picture of your dessert, both names of the students in the group, the title of the class (French I), and block (4).

Slide 2: You will give a brief history of your dessert. You may answer some of the following questions; however, you may not be able to find all of the answers. Please try to at least answer 3 of the 6 questions.

  • Who invented the dessert?
  • What region, city, or town is the recipe from?
  • Is the dessert served during a special holiday or celebration?
  • Does the dessert symbolize anything uniquely French?
  • When was the dessert first made?
  • How did this dessert become famous?

Slide 3: You will now include a recipe for the dessert with pictures and/or a video showing how the dessert is made. Please limit videos to less than 5 mins. (I will demonstrate how a video can be embeded in a PowerPoint)

Slide 4: You will teach the class how to pronounce at least 10 words in French that coorelate with your dessert. This vocabulary is all up to the group. It can be the ingredients, the cooking utensils used in the baking process, the person who created the dessert, or the place it came from. Be creative here so that the same words like "cuillère" are not used over and over in everyone's presentation.

Slide 5: Thank the audience for their attention. Thank Mrs. Harriston and her class for the desserts. Provide more pictures of variations of your dessert.
