Introduction
Definition of C3
- A three carbon compound.
- Has an open stomata during the day, and takes place through the leaves.
- The enzyme rubisco which is involved in photosynthesis is the enzyme that is involved with taking in CO2.
Definition of C4
- A four carbon compound
- PEP carboxylase is involved in the take in of CO2, it delievers it straight to the Rubisco for photosynthesis
Task

Process
Plants that undergo C3 Photosynthesis
- wheat
- Soybean
- wheat
- rye
- oats
- peanuts
- barley
- potato
- wine grapes
- oranges
Plants that undergo C4 Photosynthesis
- crab grass
- corn
- sugercane
- nut grass
- chenopods
- millet
- amaranth
- sorgham
- fourwinged salt brush
- barnyard grass
Evaluation
C3 vs C4
C3 plants are more efficient in cool moist conditions with normal lighting because it requires less machinery.
C4 plants are more efficient in high light intensity wit high temperatures causing the CO2 to go directly to the Rubisco making it not take in oxygen and skipping the photorespiration system.
Conclusion
In conclusion, both C3 and C4 are efficient for specific environmental areas, however most plants undergo C3 photosynthesis. C4 has an added Carbon over C3 changing the process in which it synthesises.
