The Native Americans of The Eastern Woodlands

Introduction

On this webquest you will be exploring how the Eastern Woodland Indians lived. You will learn how smart they had to be to live around the time period of 1000 A.D. The three main tribes in the Eastern Woodlands Indians are they Iroqious, The Mound Builders and The Cherokee.

This is a  a traditional home for the Native Americans of the Eastern Woodland Indians called a wigwam.

Task

You can choose from any of the projects below.

1. Make a clay or playdo model of a wigwam or a long house. On the intruduction is a picture of a wigwam to find a picture of a long house go to this website. http://naxnox.weebly.com/ew-longhouses.html Make sure that you draw a picture of the wiwam/longhouse and lable the different parts and what materials they used to make the wigwam/longhouse.

2. Either make a traditional Kachina doll out of cloth or draw one on a paper/poster. Explain how they made the doll and why they made them on a seperate peice of paper. Picture of a Kachina doll on the website provided below.

3. 4. You can write a realistic fiction story about your life as an Eastern Woodland. Process

These are the steps that you need to follow to complete the task of your choice:)

 

Model of Dwelling:

1.Look at the pictures provided earlier in the webquest.

2. Choose either a wigwam or longhouse.

3.Get all of the neccesary materials you to make the dwelling. 

4. Draw or print the wigwam/longhouse on a paper and label the materials used to make parts of the dwelling. NEEDS TO LOOK REALISTIC!!!!

5. Make the model of the dwelling using the playdo/clay.

 

Kachina Doll:

1. Look at a picture of a Kachina doll that is the website located in the task section. Make the Kachina doll as the picture shows but with cloth instead of wood and other materials.

2. Get neccesary materials needed to make a Kachina doll.

3. draw the picture of your Kachina doll and label.

4. After drawling and labeling make your doll out of cloth.

Clothing Article:

1. Look at the pictures provided on the task page.

2. Get neccesary materials needed for this project.

3. Draw the basic outline for the clothing article.

4. Make the clothes either ceromonial or causal.


Realistic Fiction Story:

  • Instruduce your family
  • Tell about they ceromonies you go to
  • What your name is and means
  • Tell how you help your mother/father everyday with helping make dinner/catching dinner, helping out with younger siblings, ect.
  • What games you play
  • What type of dwelling (home) you live in
  • Your family/tribes beliefs (gods/goddeses)
  • Where you live in the Eastern Woodland Region
