Introduction
The goal for everyone at Adult Ed is to improve his/her lifestyle by obtaining a job that is satisfying, not only in wages, but also in personal satisfaction. A great deal of a person's time is spent at work; you want to be happy and enjoy your work.
A large part of obtaining this goal is being "career ready." Earning your GED or diploma is a huge part of being career ready. Currently in our nation, state, and county there is an initiative to make all our citizens "career ready", meaning that we all have the skills needed to work well in a job we enjoy. This initiative is called the National Career Readiness initiative, more familiarly referred to as being WorkKeys certified.
This webquest is designed to help you understand more about yourself, how to use www.careerready101.com, and what WorkKeys is all about.
Task
1. Why are we doing this?
2. What do I want to do with my life?
3. What more can I learn about the career cluster that matches my interests and how is becoming WorkKeys certified in Reading for Information, Locating Information, and Applied Math critical to jobs in this cluster?
Process
1. Log in to www.careerready101.com using the username and password provided for you.
2. Click on "My Lessons". Under "My Lessons", click on "About this Course". Look to the right of the screen and click on "Start Interactive Lesson". Complete all parts of this lesson. List 3 things you learned and describe why you believe we are going to be using this website.
3. Return to "My Lessons" and click on "Career Clusters". Complete all parts of this lesson. You will discover with this lesson how your interests relate to jobs! :) Attached is the interest inventory you will see in this lesson. Please complete this interest inventory. When you have completed this entire lesson, record the career cluster that most suits you based on your answers to the interest inventory. then, list 3 jobs in this cluster that catch your eye. For all 3 jobs, record what training you must have to obtain these jobs, how much you can make working in these positions, and at least one task for each of the three jobs that you would do often.
4. Return once again to "My Lessons". Scroll towards the bottom of the lessons and click the career cluster your interest inventory matched with you. Complete all parts of this lesson. Then, record something that surprised you or new that you learned about this career cluster. Part of this lesson asks you questions that are Reading for Information, Locating Information, and Applied math, which are the 3 tests required for earning a WorkKeys credential; based on these questions, explain how these 3 areas (Reading for Information, Locating Information, Applied Math) relate to the career you crave!
