Poetry Hunt

Introduction
 
Pretend that you are working as a reporter or a journalist.  Your job is to work cooperatively with your assigned group to complete all of the assigned tasks.  It is imperative that you follow all directions carefully and completely in order to successfully accomplish your goal. This is a fun and unique approach to learning about poetry. Take advantage of this opportunity. You may ask questions at any time. Happy searching!
Task
 

1. Your first task is to use the provided Internet links to define the following poetry terms.

2. Your second task is to use the provided Internet links to research the following types of poetry. Define each type of poetry. Then read several examples of each type of poetry and then select your favorite example for each type. After selecting your favorite example, identify any of the poetic elements present in the poem.

3. You will then create your own poems for two of your favorite types of poetry. They must be original. They must contain poetic elements.

Process for Task 1

1.Begin a slideshow presentation in Keynote, and title it "Poetry Hunt". On the title slide, be sure to include the names of all the people working in your group.

2.For your Keynote presentation, use the provided Internet links to define the poetry terms given below.

3. Be sure to type these terms and give definitions in your own words.

4. Continue to Process 2 where you will be adding to your Keynote presentation.

imagery, stanza, metaphor,idiom, stanza, tone, mood, connotation, shift,theme, repetition, refrain, rhyme scheme, paraphrase, onomatopoeia, personification, simile, alliteration, theme, and hyperbole

Process for Task 2

1. Use GOOGLE to search for the examples of the types of poetry given below.

Types of Poetry:

narrative, limerick, haiku, epic, free verse, and shape poetry

2. Look at several different examples of each type of poetry.

3. Choose your favorite example for each type.

4. Copy the link for each of your 6 favorite examples, and paste each link onto its own slide in Keynote. Title each slide with the type of poem, and give its definition. Also on the slide, include the title and author of the poetry example you chose.

5. Reread each poem and find examples of the poetic elements. List any examples that are present on the slide where you defined the poetry type, and listed the title, and author.

Process for Task 3

1. Sumbit your Poetry Hunt Keynote presentation to eBackpack in the assignment folder named "Poetry Hunt WebQuest".

Process for Task 4

1. Choose your two favorite types of poems from the list of poems you researched.

2. Write your own original examples based on the poems you selected.

3. Write your poems on a seperate piece of paper.

4. Each student must have his/her own original poems.

5. Decorate the poem pages and feel free to write in colored ink. Don't be afraid to be creative.

6. When each group member is finished with their two original poems they should staple their poems together and submit them to class tray.
