Understanding the Holocaust

Introduction

Before we read the play The Diary of Anne Frank, we need background knowledge of the Holocaust.  Anne Frank is one of the most famous victims of this unimaginable historical travesty.  This study will raise questions of fairness, justice, individual identity, peer pressure, conformity, indifference, and obedience--issues that are part of middle school students' daily lives. 

As you research, consider the consequences of prejudice, racism and stereotyping in any society. Think about the use and abuse of power and  the responsibilities of individuals, organizations and even nations when confronted with civil rights violations.
