Introduction
We have many endangered plants, animals and other organisms that live in the state of Ohio. It is important that we study them to help us gain a better understanding of what is causing them to be on this endangered list and what we can do to help stop this. We will investigate locally threatened or endangered species within Ohio and create a brochure about our organism that will help others better understand what is happening in our area.
Process
Task 1:
Read the story Endangered Animals as an introduction to endangered species and how different creatures have been affected over time.
Complete the Fact and Opinion / Vocabulary worksheet. Copies will be found in the EAGLE tray in the classroom.
Turn it in for the teacher to review before you move on to task 2.
Task 2:
Review the list of Ohio's Endangered Organisms (this may be done on your own or in pairs)
Ohio Department of Natural Resources
Choose an organism (NOT a plant) off this list that you would like to do more research on.
Share this orgaism with your teacher for approval.
Task 3:
Research your creature! You will need to fill in the graphic organizer on your creature! Additional copies of the graphic organizer for your information is linked below:
Once you have your information filled in, share it with your teacher for further approval to move on to Task 4!
Task 4:
Create a brochure through "Pages" on your iPad, an iMovie (not a trailer and not to exceed 3 minutes in length) or a Keynote presentaion on your species. You should include all the information listed within your graphic organizer as well as pictures of your creature!
Final projects will be submitted online through the teacher's website or submitted through the individoal iPads.
Conclusion
We will present these brochures in class. You will have a chance to read all completed brochures, Keynotes or view iMovies in class as well as listen to arguments as to why each creature deserves our help. We will vote in class on the Ohio creature we feel is most deserving of our help based upon the project and group arguements.
The students with the highest vote per class will have their borchure featured on the morning announcements.
