Introduction
Before we read the novel Bite of the Mango by Mariatu Kamara and Susan Mclelland, you will need to gather some background information on the major concepts of the novel. These are important foundations that we need to discover before we can work to understand and appreciate the novel!

Task
Let's start your quest! Copy and paste these questions in a Word Document (mostly so you can save your work) or in Google docs (or something similar) and e-mail me your answers (E-mail: jbolt@lcsd.ca). If you prefer, you can write out the answers on paper (you don't need to copy down the questions). Just ensure that you hand in something to me!

STEP ONE: Zoom out away from Sierra Leone. Name some countries that border on Sierra Leone.
STEP TWO: Write a few sentences describing where Sierra Leone is on our planet Earth.

STEP ONE: click on the + sign beside a topic to read some facts and information about Sierra Leone.
STEP TWO:Find three facts that interest you and explain how you feel about these facts. Some facts that may surprise you can be found under the topic "Population". These include 'Population growth rate', 'Life expectancy', 'Total fertility rate', 'HIV/AIDS', and 'Infectious Diseases'.
STEP ONE: Zoom in towards Freetown (capital of Sierra Leone). Look for red dots indicating cities and blue boxes which are photos. Click on a few to bring up photos and information.
STEP TWO: Write a few sentences describing what you saw and your reactions.
4) We will now watch a video as a class.
STEP ONE: Pay attention to the video and answer the following questions duing/after.
a) What are three things that surprised you about life in Sierra Leone/ Foday's story?
b) List a minimum of two things that people in our culture/country might take for granted that people in Sierra Leone do not have.
5) After learning and researching the background and context of the novel, write three questions you hope are answered in this book.

3)Take a breath knowing that you are prepared to conquer the Bite of the Mango!

Evaluation
Hand in your answers to the webquest as you will be given a completion mark for finishing the assignment!
