PEER PRESSURE

Introduction

Students will be placed into groups of fours and shown the following You Tube video clip about  Peer Pressure to grab their attention.

Subsequently, they will formulate a proper definition for 'Peer Pressure'.  Students will be asked to differentiate between negative or positive peer pressure.

Task

Students will employ the Multiple Intelligences Approach to carry out  the required tasks. They will be given work cards with the tasks to be completed within their groups. 

Tasks will include:

  • Writing a letter to advise a friend about the influences of peer pressure.
  • Composing and singing a song about peer pressure.
  • Creating a dub poem about peer pressure.
  • Dramatizing a scenario to depict the influence of negative peer pressure. 
  • Draw a picture of a scene depicting the effects of negative or positive peer pressure.
Process

One student from each group will be given the task of recording a video of their group presentation. 

  • Students will work cooperatively in their groups to complete the given task using the element/ focus of the Multiple Intelligence Approach  given on the work card.
  • Each group  will  be asked to pick a number from a grab bag to determine the order in which they will present to the class.
  • The teacher will select a student from each group to form an evaluative team and will be provided with a rubric to evaluate the presentations. Various students will be randomly selected to do same. 
  • Students will make their presentations accordingly.
Evaluation

A common grade will be assigned to each group using the given rubric.

Conclusion

Students will be able to define peer pressure and differentiate between negative and positive peer pressure. They will write a reflection on the influence of peer pressure in their journals.

They will complete the given follow up activity below:

Students wiil identify and explain a situation in which he/she was positively or negatively influenced by peer pressure and what was done in response to this situation.
