Introduction
In your assessment task, you must create a menu that caters for many special needs, can feed many people as well as being cost effective. In order to determine if your menu will be cost effective, you need to do some research.
This web quest will enable you to complete an important section of your assessment. Be sure to take your time and double check your work to make sure you have completed not only the web quest but also the maths work involved within.
Before you start, you need to already know exactly how many people you are serving and the menu you have decided on for your guests.
Task
The task is simple:
- You need to choose the dish that you are going to cost from the menu that you have decided on for your assessment task
- You need a list of exact measurements of each ingredient. - be specific, don't just think mince; you need to think 600g of lean pork mince!
- You need to head to the Woolworths online shopping site and cost your dish - NOTE: you will need to use some maths in order to cost your dish to the exact measurement. If you are unsure on how to do this, ask a fellow classmate first, followed by your teacher
- Finally, find an exact total amount needed for your dish.
Process
Step 1
- Outline the ingredients of the dish per serve (including measurements, e.g. 600g pork mince)
Step 2
- Identify the number of people you will be serving
Step 3
- From those figures, calculate the total measurements of each ingredient, e.g. if there is 100g pork mince per serve and you are serving 13 people, you will need 1.3kg of beef mince.
Step 4
- Head to the Woolworths online shop:
Step 5
- Using the online shop, find the price of each ingredient per 100g or equivalent NOTE:if price os given in per kf or per L you need to convert to grams or mililitres.
Step 6
- using these figures, calculate how much your ingredients will cost!
Evaluation
Results
After completing the costing of your dish, you need to post your results in the forum on your class website.
Evaluation
- Is there any way that you can make your dish more cost effective (maybe using a cheaper brand or substituting fresh for frozen foods)
- Looking at your results, how cost effective is your dish?
Excellent Okay Average Poor Awful
