Introduction
Learning about the different rules and laws Johnson County
We have gone over the different laws and regulations that our community has for us. Now it is your turn to be in charge! What kind of rules and laws would you want if your were Mayor of our town?
Task
You will get in assigned groups of three. After reading some of the rules and laws that our community of Johnson County has you will need to make up your own rules and laws if you were the Mayor of our town.
You can use some of the rules that we have already discussed and that are already in place. You will each write down your own but you are in groups so you can discuss them with eachother.
You will need a minimum of 10 rules/laws that are different. Write them down on a sheet of paper. Please flip it over when you are done so that I can come by and give you a piece of white contruction paper.
Next you will get out your crayons, design and color a flag as if you were making your own. You can make it look like however you want it to look like.
Process
Step 1. After going over our community government you will break up into the assigned groups of three.
Step 2. Use the information we discussed as guides and have a pencil and sheet of paper with you.
Step 3. As you write down your own rules/laws you would have if you were the Mayor of the town, discuss these ideas with your group.
Step 4. Once you are done writing at least 10 different rules/laws flip your paper over so I know you are finished.
Step 5. On the piece of construction paper I give you, design and color the "town" flag. These will hang on the walls for others to see once they are done. So put a lot of effort into making them look nice.
Evaluation
You will be graded on:
How well you discuss these ideas with your group. 10 points possible
Giving at least 10 rules/laws of your choice and creativity. 10 points possible
How much effort you put into your flag. 5 points possible.
Conclusion
Great job class on your team effort and learning the importance of making good choices, being a good citizen and law maker. I hope you have had fun doing this activity. We have worked hard over the last few lessons learning how important it is to follow these rules and the big responsiblity of being a President and Mayor is.
