Introduction
Hello grade 2 scientists! Our planet needs your help. Our Earth needs more animals species. Your job is to make a new kind of animal that can survive anywhere on Earth. You will need to collect as much information as you can about animal adaptations. Animals have 5 basic needs to survive: 1. Food/Water 2. Oxygen 3. Body temperature 4. protection/defense 5. Shelter. Make sure that your animal has th body parts needed to meet their 5 basic needs.
Task
Create a new animal species and expain how your animal is able to adapt.
1. Choose an animal to research
2. Use the different websites to find information about the different ways animals adapt.
3. Get together with your group and dicuss your findings and dicuss a new animal you could create
4. Create a poster or powerpoint presentation telling your classmates how your animal meets the 5 basic needs for survival.
5. Make sure you include a drawing of your new animal!
Process
1. First you'll be assigned to a team of 4 students.
2. You will each be responsible for one of the roles that follow as you research an animal.
- diet of the animal.
- behavior and appearance.
- structures of the animal and how these allow it to live in its habitat.
- habitat of the animal.
3. When you are researching, choose an animal that you all agree upon and that has the same habitat as the animal your group will create.

4. Each group member will have to take notes as you research.
5. Now that you have learned how animals adapt to their habitats, it's time for you to create your own animal!
6. Stay in your same roles to create your piece of media.
7. You must give your new animal a name and tell us how your animal meets the 5 basic needs to survive.
8. Include a drawing of your animal!
