This is a WebQuest that will allow students to intergrate technology in Social Studies.

INTRODUCTION:

Students will learn themes of Geography and how it impacts the lives of the people. Students will also learn how the themes encompasses Location, Place, Region, Human Environment-Interaction, and Movement and their meaning.

Students will learn how to use modern technology to learn Social Studies.





































Task

TASK:

Question 1: What are the five themes of geography and how do they impact people's lives?

Activity 1: Create and describe at least one instructional activity based on a view of geography as the study of relationships within places, humans, and environments.

Question 2: Why should historical events and people be important to me?

Activity 2: Create and describe at least one instructional activity for your grade level that teaches children to think critically about historical events and people.

Question 3: What is economics and why should I care?

Activity 3: Create and describe at least one activity for teaching microeconomic or macroeconomic concepts in meaningful, authentic ways.

Process

Process:

1. Students will learn how about the 50 Staates in the U.S.A., they will first label a map of the U.S. to get familiar with all of the States and their Capitals. Where they will get the information from the Internet.

2. Students will then select a state of their choice and complete an in-depth research about the state it's capital, state flower, and any other monumental artifact that may be in that state.

3. Students are free to create a drawing of the selected state. Student are also required to write a one page summary of all the facts they are required for the assignment:

  • Students summary should include the State Capital and how it was named.
  • Summary should include, when the state beacame apart of the United States
  • Should include the state Flower and why it was chosen
  • Students should also include any othe monumental artifacts
  • Students should also tell of any others facts like of war, state animals, famous persons
  • Students summary must be at least one page long
  • Students should use Times New roman with a 12pt. Font

4. Once the students have gathered all of their information about their selected state, students will format in summary style. Students can create and label tthe map the drew, printed, or created in 3D. The maps should include, a Title of the State Selected. At least 4 Major cities, the State capital, Bird, Tree, Flower, Rivers, Oceans, or Lakes. Students should practice first before turning in the final project, students can use the practice guide as a study guide for the upcoming test.

At the end of this assignment students should be able to lable a map of any of the 50 States.

Know how and where to find any of the 50 States on a map.

Students should be able to use modern technology in Geography to learn more about out States and the people eho live in them.

Students should have also learned any valuable facts about the 50 States.

This is a WebQuest that will allow students to locate places in Indiana on a map, and find facts out about Indiana.

Teacher Introduction

In this lesson students will be creating a map and write a one page summary about a state of their choice. However, if need be this lesson could be modified to use any state or a particular state selected by the teacher. The summary will include the labeling of the State Flower, Trees, Birds, Capital, and important Cities in the State, as well as Rivers.

This lesson incorporates the Texas Academic Standards:

  • 4.3.4 for Geography
  • 4.4.10, 4.411, 4.5.3, 4.6.2 for English/Language Arts
