A Journey Through History 1800 - 1860

Introduction

We have covered the events of this continent from the Pre Historic Age (100,000 b.c.)all the way up to the formation and expansion of the United States of America (1803 a.d.)  It is time to move forward with 10 major events that happened between 1800 - 1860, which will take us to the doorstep of the Civil War.

The due date for this project is at the start of class on May 5th.

Task

Your task is to choose one of the following major events in history.  Before you make your final decision, please consider the following questions.

1.) I am going to challenge myself with a topic I know very little about?

2.) Am I going to challenge myself to find a wide array of resources of varied types, so that I have the tools to make an outstanding project?

The topic choices and their appoximate year of origin/happening are:

#1. The Second Great Awakening - 1800

#2. The Industrial Revolution of New England - 1800

#3. The Plantations of the South and Life Under Slavery - 1808

#4. The War of 1812 - 1812

#5. The Abolitionist Movement - 1816

#6. The Trail of Tears - 1835

#7. The Battle of the Alamo - 1836

#8. The Women's Movement - 1848

#9. The California Gold Rush - 1849

#10 - Immigration to the United States - 1840 - 1860

After you have chosen your topic, the next steps are to gather your resources, and develop an outline that will give your  presentation organization and structure.

The following link includes good examples of outlines - -

Steps to creating an outline - - -

  • Brainstorm: List all the ideas that you want to include in your paper.
  • Organize: Group related ideas together.
  • Order: Arrange material in subsections from general to specific or from abstract to concrete.
  • Label: Create main and sub headings.

You will turn your paper outline in for points, as part of your grade, when you present your project.

Once your have your resources collected and your outline is complete - you are ready to write your script (report) to create your presentaion, which will be a 5 minute I-Movie presentation. Go to the process page to see the step by step process for creating the I-Movie.
