Anti-Smoking Campaign

Introduction

Congratulations!!! Your team has been chosen as a finalist to compete for a contract with a large advertising agency to create a national anti-smoking campaign that targets smokers in their teens and early 20's. As we know, cigarette smoking is the number one cause of cancer in America. This is your chance to make a difference.

Task

Your team will create an anti-smoking campaign that targets people in their teens and early 20's. No one knows how people your age think better than you do. Here is your chance to make a difference.

90% of smokers begin smoking before the age of 21 and of those who continue to smoke into adulthood, half will die from smoking related illnesses. In addition, lifelong smokers will die 13 to 14 years earlier than non-smokers. In spite of numerous anti-smoking campaigns, many new smokers claim they were unaware of the risks when they started. Is this an issue that can be resolved? How can you have an impact?

Process

Step 1: Break into groups of 2, 3 or 4 people (the teacher will help you set up teams)

Step 2: Conduct research about the affects and dangers of smoking tobacco using the following sources.

B) A poster

C) A music video or commercial that is no longer than 30 seconds in length

Flyer - It is recommended that you create your flyer using http://www.flyerforfree.com/ Be sure to give credit on your flyer for any information or images that you use. Your flyer should be informative, interesting and attractive.

Poster - Create a digital poster that can be printed out later. Your poster should be eye-catching and interesting while conveying the anti-smoking message quickly. I suggest using https://www.lucidpress.com/pages/examples/free-online-poster-maker

Video/Commercial - You have the choice of making a music video or a commercial. Your video/commercial should be no more than 30 seconds long, be exciting and interesting and convey the anti-smoking message. You may record the video with a digital camera or a cell phone camera. It is recommended that you use Windows Live Moviemaker or Animoto to make your video http://animoto.com/intro/animoto/30dyno?gclid=CJvb2K_t4r0CFcx9OgodugcA2g
