Introduction
Mexican American War also called Mexican War, Spanish Guerra de 1847 or Guerra de Estados Unidos a Mexico (“War of the United States Against Mexico”), war between the United States and Mexico (April 1846–February 1848) stemming from the United States’ annexation of Texas in 1845 and from a dispute over whether Texas ended at the Nueces River (Mexican claim) or the Rio Grande (U.S. claim). The war—in which U.S. forces were consistently victorious—resulted in the United States’ acquisition of more than 500,000 square miles of Mexican territory extending westward from the Rio Grande to the Pacific Ocean.
Task
The first part of this Webquest is to choose a side, The mexican side or the American side. This will force you to choose a side and using the information you find be able to defend it. There is no right or wrong side in this project. Remember the point of this assignment is to convinve the opposition that your stance is the right one.
The second component is to write one paragraph explaining why you chose your stance. This paragraph will be a miniumm of five sentances, 12-point New Times Roman, 1 Inch margins. In explaining your stance, you will explain why you think the United States entered the war. If your stance is for the Mexicans, you will explain Mexicos stance in saying that the border was at the Nueces River.
The third component of this assignment will be to create a powerpoint presentation over a military leader from Mexico or the United States. You will present this information and explain the role the leader played in the War to your classmates. Keep in mind the Role of each leader can affect a persons stance. Look deep into what the leaders goals and motives were.
The last part of this assignment is to prepare a speech no shorter than five minutes. This speech will be to point our your reasons that for Mexico or the United States to the class. This speech should include main points and try and play on the emotions of your classmates using facutal evidence from your research. The ultimate goal is to try and convince classmates that you are right in your stance.
Process
This assignment will require you to work with a partner since alot of information will have to be researched. You will first look thorugh the links on this webquest. The links will be pro mexican and pro american. Keep in mind to better prove your point you must know the stance of your opposition. All parts of this assignment will be shared between you and your partner so that both of you will contribute to each part.
Next you will begin following the steps of picking a side, writing your paragrah should include information from you and your partner. You will be required to write a rough draft and a final part.
Next assembling your powerpoint, Your powerpoint should be about 10 slides long. Its important not to put too much information. Be creative and use pictures. This is what puts a visual representation to your point.
Finally, your speech will require for you and your partner to speak. You can also be creative with this part. Remember that this is your last chance to convince your classmates who dont agree with you to see your point. Make stong statements that you can defend.

Congratulations, you have successfully defended your stance! You have taken a strong stance, researched it and through your research you presented your information to defend your stance. You have shown that you know a great deal about this war, this is important because this war effected the
United states and Mexicos hostory.
