- In this WebQuest we will be learning about different literature genres by reading works by different authors in their respective genres.The three areas of literature that we will be focusing on are:
- American Literature
- British Literature
- World Literature
Task
Your task for this WebQuest is to learn about American Literature, British Literature and World Literature by reading and analyzing texts from each genre with your group members.
Process
For this WebQuest, you will be broken into 4 groups where your assignment will be to examine a specific author in their respective genre. This assignment will take several weeks as your group will be responsible for reading three different books. (One from each genre)
Your group will be able to choose the book you wish to read from each genre. These are your choices:
American Literature:
The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald
Their Eyes Were Watching Zora Neal Hurston
Into The Wild Jon Krakaurher
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest Ken Kesey
British Literature:
Pride and Prejudice Jane Austen
Lord of the Flies William Golding
Gulliver's Travels Jonathan Swift
Watership Down Richard Adams
World Literature:
Hamlet William Shakespeare
Wuthering Heights Emily Bronte
Leaves of Grass Walt Whitman
The Old Man and the Sea Ernest Hemingway
Your group will have two weeks to read each text. It is up to your group to determine how much you read each night. The members of the group should annotate the text as they read as well as research the aurhtor and the literature genre so as to see the relationship between the author, text and genre.
Evaluation
After completing a text, each group will be responsible for presenting to the class a summary of the text in the form of a powerpoint presentation. Each group will also be responsible for presenting powerpoint presentations on the author as well as the literature genre.
Groups will be graded on the content of their presentations as well as their overall knowledge of the text, author and genre and how they are all reflected in one another.
Conclusion
Through this WebQuest students should gain an understanding of the three literature genres not only by reading texts from each genre, but also by sharing with their classmates the information they have learned through the reading process.
