Natural Hazards

Introduction

You have been selected by the "Organization for the Occurrence of Natural Disasters" to be a researcher. Your job is to investigate the world's natural disasters. The task you have been given is to describe the event (hurricane, tornado, earthquake, tsunami or volcano), the causes of such events, important historical occurrences, and how this event impacts humans.

Task

Your job is to find the information using the Internet to research the five topics below. As you research, record your answers to the questions on a word document.

Information to find:

  1. Explain your natural disaster and what causes it.
  2. Where does the disaster occur?
  3. How are humans influenced by the disaster?
  4. What are some of the major natural disasters of this kind that have occurred throughout history?
  5. What tools and methods are used to predict this natural disaster?

Process

Step 1:

Choose which Natural Disaster you want to research.

Step 2:

Research the 5 questions.

Step 3:

Record your answers on a word document and turn your completed work into the dropbox.

Evaluation

Colorado State Standard 10a: Construct an explanation based on evidence for how the occurrence of natural hazards have influenced human activity.

Each question is worth 2 points and should be answered as completely as possible.

  1. Explain your natural disaster and what causes it.
  2. Where does the disaster occur?
  3. How are humans influenced by the disaster?
  4. What are some of the major natural disasters of this kind that have occurred throughout history?
  5. What tools and methods are used to predict this natural disaster?

Type your answers into a word document and turn them into the course dropbox.

Conclusion

Don't forget to turn in your 5 questions typed on a word document into the course dropbox.

By completing this webquest, you should now have an understanding of how natural disasters impact humans.
