Students, before we begin, please open a Google Doc, Word Document, or piece of paper, to take notes on thee use of narrative techniques, such as dialogue, pacing, and description, to develop experiences, events, and/or characters.
Narrative Writing
One might wonder, what is narrative writing and what attributes does it include? Well this is exactly where you will be learning about narrative writing and figuring out how to do it on your own.
Narrative writing is a story that includes characters, plot, dialogue, a sort of conflict/problem, and an overall story arc. Narrative writing is something that can be made up or come from personal experience.
Plot: the sequence of events where each affects the next one through the principle of cause-and-effect.
Characters: a person or being in a novel, play, or movie.
Dialogue: a written composition in which two or more characters are represented as conversing.
Conflict: a serious disagreement or argument, typically a protracted one.
Story Arc: the continued path that a story follows.

Task
Students will be able to identify and exhibit the importance of point of view and narrative writing by creating their own story. This story will be at least 3 paragraphs and will represent their learnings of this topic. This is a sort of test-run for a longer narrative essay we will be writing later in the semester.

Process
Here you will be provided with different resources in which you can view examples. These examples will provide you with insight and information on how to create your own short narrative story and what one may look like. Please take the time to look through at least 3 examples and write down attributes, ideas, thoughts, and instructions that can help you when writing your own short narrative story.

ISTE Standard 6a: Students choose the appropriate platforms and tools for meeting the desired objectives of their creation or communication.
Teachers may copy and paste this lesson into their own template for their own use. They can also share the link into their own class website to be used.
This lesson also fulfills multiple UDL Guidelines by Optimize individual choice and autonomy (checkpoint7.1). This is done by allowing the students to be able to come up with their own topic for their narrative story and not confining them to one idea. This gives them their own individual choice. Another Guideline it fulfills is by Clarify vocabulary and symbols (checkpoint2.1). This is done by giving the students resources and direct definitions of certain language used to describe Narrative Writing.
