Introduction

This lesson will show you about Narrative Text.

  • Narrative Text is a type of text that tells a series of chronologically connected events. Usually this story is imaginative or just a story by the author. An important part of narrative text is the narrative mode, the set of methods used to communicate the narrative through a process narration.
  • The Purpose of Narrative Text is to amuse or to entertain the reader with a story.

Language Features of Narrative Text

  • Past tense (killed, loved, studied, etc)
  • Adverb of time (Once upon a time, one day, etc)
  • Time conjunction (when, then, suddenly, after, etc)
  • Specific character. The character of the story is specific, not general. (Timun Mas, Ikan Mas, Cinderella, Snow White, Pinokio, etc)
  • Action verbs. A verb that shows an action. (killed, dug, walked, etc)

Generic Structures of Narrative Text

  • Orientation

Sets the scene: where and when the story happened and introduces the participants of the story: who and what is involved in the story.

  • Complication

Tells the beginning of the problems which leads to the crisis (climax) of the main participants.

  • Resolution

The problem (the crisis) is resolved, either in a happy ending or in a sad (tragic) ending.

  • Re-orientation/Coda

This is a closing remark to the story and it is optional. It consists  of  a  moral  lesson,  advice  or  teaching  from  the writer.

Read a narrative text about Timun Mas on http://www.kuliahbahasainggris.com/15-contoh-soal-timun-mas-narrative-text-dalam-bahasa-inggris-beserta-jawaban/ identify of the generic structure of the text and try to answer the questions without look at the keyword.

Process

The process of narrative text lesson :

1. Make a group that consist of 3 students.

2. Identify of the generic structure of the text

3. Answer the question about the narrative text correctly

4. Submit it at least 11.30 AM.
