Living Things

Introduction

Living Things

Imagine you are a scientist exploring the outdoors. You are looking for living things! During this lesson you will sort and identify living things. You will also identify what they need to survive. Have fun!

Task

Task

You will begin the activity by taking a walk outdoors. During this walk write or draw living things and non living things you see. We will discuss your findings back in the classroom. Then you will be required to select a living thing and identify three things it needs to survive. You will share your final product with the class.

Process

Process

Step 1: Review living and non living things. Watch the following video-

Step 2: Turn and talk with a partner about something you learned in the video.

Step 3: Go outside with class and create a list of non living and living things. You may write or draw your findings. Try to find at least three living and three non living things.

Step 4: Once inside share findings with class.

Step 5: You will complete a sorting activity of living and nonliving things-

Step 6: You will select a living thing to share with the class for the final product. Once you have selected a living thing you will identify three things it needs to survive.  You may work alone or with one peer. Listen to the song:

Step 7: Draw the living thing you selected and then draw three things it needs to survive. You also need to label the living thing. This part of the assignment is the assessment.

Step 7: Share your work with class.

Evaluation

You will be assessed on the final product you submit and share with class. Here is the rubric for the assessment.

Conclusion

Conclusion

You learned how to identify living things and what they need to survive!  Throughout this assignment you demonstrated many essential science skills.

Try taking another walk outdoors and look around, what living things do you see? Keep exploring! :)
