My Personal Philosophy on Technology in Education
Modern technology has made it so much easier to obtain educational information for classroom or homework assignments. It offers educational games that stimulate the brain and help children who have difficulties focusing on traditional teaching and learning procedures.
I believe technology can be used to enhance the learning experience of students if it is used as additional reinforcement rather than a replacement for teaching. Technology can and will enhance the learning experience; but there needs to be guidance; someone who will facilitate and monitor learning for students to understand the lesson and keep students focused.
Technology can provide fun and interactive lessons and activities which will help them to develop a positive attitude towards learning. Most students seem to learn better this way and are more interested in the lesson when technology is incorporated in their learning experience. Children these days interact with technology on a regular basis and in most aspects of their lives, whether it be messaging, social networking, blogging, playing games, doing assignments, technology is an essential part of their everyday lives. Therefore, I think technology is the best method to be used in the classroom of clinging to the traditional methods. I believe that students should be taught using wikis, social networking sites, PowerPoint, discussion boards etc.
Technology is a versatile and valuable tool for teaching and learning and becoming a way of life. When students see their teacher trying new things, they become more engaged in the process. Technology allows students to see the whole world as a resource with themselves being in charge of their destiny. It also benefits students because they have choices and opportunities to explore and share information to a greater extent than available in a traditional classroom.
