Introduction: Your family is moving, but no one is sure where to live. Your parents ask your opinion about what type of community you want to live in – urban or rural. You tell your parents that you need to do some research before deciding. You will gather information about each community to make the best decision.

Process

Its now time to explore. Let's go

Step 1: Allow the students to review the resources as given in the attachments section below.

Step 2: Decide if you will have your students working in groups (it is best to have groups no larger than four members), or if

           you will pair them (more like the buddy system - one weaker student with a stronger student) or,

          If you will have them work alone (some students work better on their own).

Step 3:  Based on the information gleaned from the resources the students are asked to

i)  identify five(5) types of community workers;

             ii) group their 5 community workers according ‘Essential’ or ‘Non-Essential’ service;

iii) have students identify 3  institutions that offer services in their community and the service they offer to the

     community.

iv) let them show how the community benefit from these institutions.

Step 4: Have students present the information in step 3 on a poster, a graphic organiser, in

     a song, a poem, on a frayer model, venn diagram or graphic organiser.

Conclusion

Thank you for staying with us on this journey!

Did you enjoy the lesson?

Now the opportunity is yours to tell us about your experience. Remember you can draw, sing, write, sign or dramatize.

Would you want us to continue learning more about the topic?

We could look at different communities and how these communities are formed.  Yes, you can also identify with a community of your choice but first you need to know why these communities exist and who are involved.

Continue to do your own research and we will be back with you soon!
