Hello! Welcome to the Music of the Civil Rights Movement Webquest. In this WebQuest, you will explore the role that music played during this time period in the United States. You will discover how music was used as a tool to amplify Black people's voices, to inspire activist movements and to bring people together - no matter what their background was during this pivotal moment in U.S history.
Task
Task 1: Research the background of the Civil Rights movement with the provided resource links. Identify main goals of this movement, major challenges, and the key activists that led the movement.
Task 2: Research the role of music during the Civil Rights movement. Explore genres including Gospel, Folk, and Rhythm & Blues. Find three examples of songs that impacted society during this time period. Create biographical profiles for two notable musicians that contributed to the Civil Rights Movement.
